This website has been created in partnership by Derby West Indian Community Association and Derby Museums. It is part of a heritage project called The Centre that Powers the Road: Derby West Indian Community Association, which has been generously funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

We want to thank all those who have been a part of Derby West Indian Community Association’s history and supported the project in any way. In particular the staff and volunteers who have worked on the project.

Derby Local Studies and Family History Library and Derbyshire Record Office have both supported the project and we wish to highlight their services and rich collections of local historical material that are publicly accessible.

Big Lottery funded DWICA’s Stronger Together Project, which provided staff capacity essential to the early ideas stages of this project. Big Lottery continues to support DWICA’s Even Stronger Together project – enabling DWICA to employ two paid Project Officers and an Administrator.
