The founding figure of the Derby West Indian Association, Charles Sheridan Hill was integral to early integration of the Caribbean community in Derby.
Arriving to the country from Jamaica in the early 1950s, Mr Hill would help new arrivals with forms and signpost them to services. His assistance at a time when Britain was not so welcoming, and his vision of a united community, has left a strong legacy.
As the last surviving member of the original organisation, he has been sadly missed since he passed away in 2020 at the age of 99.
